Timothy Martin "Tim" Crane (born 17 October 1962)〔(CRANE, Prof. Timothy Martin ), ''Who's Who 2014'', A & C Black, 2014; online edn, Oxford University Press, 2014〕 is a philosopher who works mostly on the philosophy of mind and metaphysics. His contributions to philosophy include a defense of a non-physicalist account of the mind; a defense of the thesis that experience has non-conceptual content; and a defense of the thesis that intentionality is the mark of the mental. Crane obtained his BA from Durham University, his MA from the University of York and his PhD in 1989 from the University of Cambridge,〔http://www.ucl.ac.uk/philosophy/academic-research/staff-tc.htm〕 where he studied with Jeremy Butterfield and Hugh Mellor. From 1990 to 2009, he taught at University College London, first as a lecturer, then as a reader, as a professor, and as head of department. He was director of the Institute of Philosophy in London between 2005 and 2008. He was appointed as the Knightbridge Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge in September 2009. He is also the philosophy editor of the Times Literary Supplement.
